Video : CCTV Captures Terrifying Explosion of Fuel Tanker in Italy
One terrible accident happened on August 6, 2018, on the highway near Bologna when the tanker truck with liquefied petroleum gas could not stop in time and fell onto a stopped vehicle, taking one life and causing great destruction. The chain of dramatic events was initiated when the tanker truck rear-ended a car that was stopped in heavy traffic. While flames began immediately following the collision, the incident became dramatically worse when another truck hit the tanker from behind. After police had removed most vehicles from the surrounding area, a powerful secondary explosion spanned all eight lanes of the highway
The accident occurred at the worst possible location – the Bologna Casalecchio interchange with the A14 route – shutting it, as it is the main transportation artery between northern Italy and the Adriatic coast. Moreover, this happened at a very inopportune time when the peak summer holiday travel season was about to reach.
It was only after several hours of hard work that the firefighters finally managed to control the situation. The aftermath of the incident showed extensive damage: burned-out skeletons of vehicles and significant structural damage to the highway infrastructure.
