Action Against Hunger-USA is part of the Action Against Hunger International network, which provides humanitarian relief in over 40 countries worldwide in the sectors of nutrition, health, water/sanitation, and food security. Action Against Hunger-USA, an independent NGO, currently manages operations in 8 countries: Kenya, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Somalia and Haiti. Action Against Hunger-USA has over $110 million in programs, and approximately 1,700 staff based in the various country offices and New York City, Washington D.C and Horn and East Africa Regional Office in Nairobi. Additional growth is anticipated.
Summary of Position
The Deputy Finance Coordinator will ensure that Action Against Hunger country office operations and our partners effectively plan for, manage and account for all financial resources in a manner that Action Against Hunger meets/exceeds and donor regulations and standards.He/she will be responsible for recruiting, supervising and mentoring all project accountants and building the capacity of our implementing partners. He/she will be responsible for coordinating all project budgeting processes and ongoing financial analysis (including generation of reports which will be approved by the finance coordinator).
Requirements
KEY ACTIVITIES IN YOUR ROLE WILL INCLUDE:
- Ensure high-quality accountancy Management for the mission
- Support the finance coordinator to define financial priorities for the country office in line with the country office strategic plan.
- Designing, promulgate and ensure compliance with cash management procedures across the mission
- Provide financial and budgetary management.
- Promote and ensure financial collaboration and coordination with mission partners.
- Ensure support and program costs are in line with the donor’s standards
- Conduct periodical internal audits using samples to check compliance with donor and internal regulations

- Manage the Finance team.
- Ensure high-quality accounting for the mission.

- You have a Bachelor’s degree in Finance,Commerce or Accounting.
- You have 10 years of professional experience in managing diverse grants (at least $ 6m per year)
- You have extensive experience working with key donor regulations and standards – including: USAID, EUTF; WFP; UNHCR; ECHO; UK AID; UNDP; SIDA; GFFO; Netherlands government; etc.
- You have the expertise in MS Office (especially MS Excel) and general ledger software is required. Use of Saga and /or Serenic Navigator desirable.
- You have experience and an understanding of essential accounting principles, financial reporting, accounting systems, budget development and administration is required.
- You have excellent influencing and negotiation skills.
- You have the ability to analyze, synthesize and report in a timely, comprehensive & well-written manner.
- You have the ability to Mentor and Capacity Build Junior staff/Supervisees
- You maintain Professionalism, honesty, reliability, autonomy & strong sense of responsibility.
- You are able to motivate and encourage others to deliver high standards of work.
- You have very good communication and training skills.
- You have exceptional organization and time management skills and are attentive to details.
