JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for 2 Translational Neuroscience Research Assistants to work on a large-scale NIH-funded research study (TOPOWA project) examining the mechanistic pathways of the social drivers of mental illness among young women in Kampala, Uganda. As a Translational Neuroscience Research Assistant, you will be a key member of an international research team that is tasked with using tools in psychophysiology (i.e., acoustic startle response and skin conductance response) to quantify physiologic indices of acute threat during a fear conditioning task within a laboratory setting. The laboratories are located in Bugolobi at the INTEGHRAL hub. These are full-time, project positions with start date in February 2023 that will last for about 10 months. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or Medicine – Behavioral, Cognitive, or Clinical tracks preferred. Other related disciplines will be considered.

  • Experience in measuring psychophysiological (e.g., acoustic startle, skin conductance, heart rate variability, blood pressure) and behavioral responses preferred. Training will be provided.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows operating system/use of computers.

  • Proven work experience as a Research Assistant or similar role.

  • Demonstrated experience in human subject’s research in a laboratory setting.

  • Excellent organizational, critical thinking, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Attention to detail to ensure their research documents are accurate at all times.

  • Priority-Minded – Can identify and execute on the most important issues.

  • Sense of Urgency – Know when to act quickly to proactively solve problems.
