Eligibility for Paid Internships

To be eligible for a UNDP internship, applicants generally must meet one of the following academic criteria:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate-level degree program (Master’s or equivalent, or higher).
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
  • Have graduated with a university degree within one year of applying for the internship.

Other common requirements include:

  • Demonstrated interest in global development and the work of UNDP.
  • Excellent written and spoken proficiency in English. Knowledge of other UN official languages (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian) is often an asset.
  • Ability to work for the specified duration (typically 3 to 6 months, up to 9 months for academic credit, and in some specific cases up to 12 months).
  • Proof of medical and life/accident insurance valid for the internship location.
  • Responsibility for obtaining any necessary visas.
