CIFOR-ICRAF, a leading non-profit science institution focused on forestry and agroforestry, is seeking expressions of interest for various Scientist, Senior Scientist, and Post Doc Fellow positions. This is a general call to build a roster of qualified candidates for upcoming opportunities.

CIFOR (Center for International Forestry Research) and ICRAF (World Agroforestry) work together to enhance the environment and well-being through trees in all landscapes. They conduct research, partner for impact, and engage with stakeholders to address pressing challenges like energy insecurity, climate change, and biodiversity loss. Both organizations are members of CGIAR, a global research partnership dedicated to food security, poverty reduction, and improved natural resources.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to:

• Provide scientific guidance and ensure high research standards.
• Collaborate with internal teams to define and implement research.
• Write and supervise publications and other scientific communications.
• Lead/Supervise capacity building initiatives.
• Supervise and mentor junior scientists and staff.
• Represent CIFOR in relevant forums.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with stakeholders.
• Lead fundraising efforts for research areas.
• Plan and monitor research activities, including finances.
• Contribute to donor reporting.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

• PhD in a relevant discipline is required.
• Experience in collaborative natural resource management or social science research is essential.
• More senior positions require the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and expertise in more than one region (across countries and continents).
• Demonstrated success in budget development is needed. Scientist positions require budget management success on multiple projects and meeting key financial objectives.
• A strong publications record, especially in peer-reviewed publications, is mandatory.
• Proven experience in resource mobilization/fundraising and proposal development/writing. Scientist positions require conceptual leadership and oversight in fundraising, plus a successful track record in obtaining donor funding.
• Effectiveness in working with multiple partners and coordinating/participating in research and fieldwork in developing countries.
• Demonstrated experience working in multicultural and multidisciplinary research teams.

Skills:

• Fluent spoken and written English is essential; proficiency in other international languages is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
• A commitment to information sharing, continuous improvement, and cooperative learning.
