Background & Context
UNDP leads global efforts on sustainable development, serving as a knowledge hub and integrator for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Nature, Climate, and Energy practice area focuses on mainstreaming environmental concerns—biodiversity, climate, energy, and waste—into national policies and advancing innovative finance for nature-positive investments.
This internship is within the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS), specifically supporting the Nature Hub’s portfolio on innovative financing instruments such as:
- Nature Investment Facility (NIF)
- Tiger Landscapes Investment Fund (TLIF)
- Biodiversity Credit Alliance (BCA)
- Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosure (TNFD)
Core Duties and Responsibilities
1. Support in Advancing Innovative Financing Instruments (40%)
- Participate in and contribute to discussions on new biodiversity finance mechanisms.
- Facilitate meetings, provide background research, and support coordination with stakeholders.
- Organize and document meetings, manage repositories, and maintain internal/external communications.
- Develop materials such as presentations, reports, and briefing notes.
- Conduct research on partners, donors, and innovative finance stakeholders.
2. Support Communication Plan Development (40%)

3. Ad Hoc/Event Support (20%)
- Help plan and coordinate partner meetings, webinars, and workshops.

Required Skills and Experience
- Education:
- Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a graduate programme (e.g., environmental management, policy, sustainability, international relations, communications, etc.).
- Experience:
- Strong analytical, research, and report-writing skills.
- Familiarity with biodiversity frameworks (e.g., Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework) is a plus.
- Experience with social media, programme management, data analysis, and organizing virtual events (using tools like Zoom, MS Teams) are advantageous.
- Language:
- Fluency in English is required.
Internship Conditions
- Financial:
- Internship is unpaid, but a monthly stipend may be provided (policy-dependent).
- Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance and must provide certification of good health.
- Remote Work:
- Interns must supply their own workspace, equipment, and internet.
- Employment:
- No guarantee of future employment with UNDP; interns may not apply for staff positions during the internship.
