Primary objective
The primary objective of this position is to manage the UNDP High-Integrity Carbon Markets Initiative in support of developing countries pathway to attract finance for NDC implementation. To do that, the Carbon Markets Project Manager will be responsible for the implementation of the UNDP HICMI, ensuring overall management and providing advice and targeted technical assistance for carbon markets implementation, capacity building and knowledge sharing on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, voluntary carbon markets with particular focus on jursidicional REDD+ programmes as well as domestic carbon markets schemes in the context of NDC implementation.
Qualifications (Typical Requirements):
- Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s) in Environmental Engineering, Technology, Finance, Political Sciences, Economics, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree with additional qualifying experience may also be considered.
- Experience: Usually a minimum of 7 years (with a Master’s) or 9 years (with a Bachelor’s) of professional experience with a strong understanding of carbon markets establishment and managing complex projects, particularly in international organizations with multiple funding sources.
- Skills: Proven ability to manage carbon projects across various sectors, strong organizational skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and familiarity with UNFCCC decisions (especially Article 6) and independent carbon crediting programs.
- Languages: Fluency in English is usually required, and knowledge of other UN official languages (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, French) is often highly desirable
