PAID INTERNSHIP: Apply for the World Bank Treasury Summer Internship Program 2026 for global students across the world

Applications are now being accepted for the 2026 World Bank Treasury Summer Internship Program. This initiative is designed as a professional training experience to help university students cultivate the knowledge and practical skills required for a career in global finance. The program seeks to attract outstanding students who have shown a clear passion for financial markets and development, with the ultimate goal of preparing them for future roles in the World Bank Treasury. Upon graduation, successful interns may transition into a two-year placement as Junior Analysts on one of the Treasury teams. To qualify, students are expected to be in the penultimate year of a four-year undergraduate program.

Internship overview

Since its launch, the internship has hosted more than seventy participants representing over thirty countries. The program maintains a strong balance of male and female participants and draws applicants from both U.S. and international universities. Interns join a multicultural environment where colleagues from more than sixty different nations work side by side, offering an enriching and globally minded atmosphere. Each intern follows a personalized rotation that allows them to gain exposure to several aspects of Treasury while learning directly from experienced professionals.

The internship runs for ten weeks, beginning on May 26 and concluding on August 3, 2026, at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C. Interns first participate in a tailored orientation program before moving through three separate rotations, each lasting approximately three weeks. Throughout the summer, participants meet regularly with program leadership, take part in technical workshops and career development sessions, and are introduced to Treasury officers, managers, and senior directors. Opportunities to engage with the entire 300-member Treasury team are built into the schedule, including a meeting with the Vice President and Treasurer. Every rotation ends with a team presentation, and the program closes with a final capstone project presented to Treasury’s leadership.

Eligibility

To be considered, students must be in their second-to-last year of undergraduate study, planning to graduate between December 2026 and September 2027. They should be pursuing fields such as economics, business, finance, or other related disciplines, maintaining good academic standing, and able to commit to the full internship period. Participants are required to focus entirely on the program without holding another job or internship at the same time.

Program calendar & Benefits

Interns are hired under short-term contracts and will be paid hourly, with rates ranging between $21.80 (net for international participants) and $26.20 (gross for U.S. citizens). The internship requires a full-time, in-person presence in Washington, D.C., with at least four days per week spent in the office. Each intern receives a World Bank-issued laptop for the duration of the program, and for those coming from outside the United States, the Bank facilitates the necessary visa arrangements.

The program calendar is structured as follows: orientation takes place from May 26 to May 29, followed by three consecutive team rotations from June 1 to July 31. A final capstone presentation is scheduled for August 3. During this period, interns will also observe public holidays, including June 19 and July 4.
