Restless Development, a global non-profit dedicated to empowering young leaders, is seeking up to three experienced Storytelling Consultants to join their Walking the Talk (WTT) project. This initiative aims to amplify real-world stories of feminist action and leadership from the Majority World to influence policy and shift global narratives. The deadline for proposals is August 20, 2025.
The Mission: Walking the Talk
The WTT project is a powerful effort to showcase the tangible impact of Feminist Foreign Policy (FFP). By highlighting the work of feminist movements and organizations, Restless Development hopes to create a compelling case for policy-makers and funders to invest in these efforts. The project is particularly interested in stories that challenge anti-rights narratives and showcase the broader societal benefits of feminist organizing and leadership, with a specific interest in stories from LGBTQ+ organizations in the Majority World.
The Role: Sourcing and Crafting Impactful Stories
The selected consultants will be tasked with sourcing and writing two to three high-impact stories each, ranging from 800 to 1,200 words. Key responsibilities include:
- Story Sourcing: Identifying and gathering compelling human-interest stories from feminist organizations, movements, and communities in the Majority World.
- Content Creation: Conducting interviews, collecting evidence and imagery, and writing publication-ready stories with full consent from all participants.
- Media Strategy: Collaborating with Restless Development to select stories and then developing a short media pitch plan for each piece, including suggested outlets and angles.
The project seeks to explore a range of priority themes, including:
- The effectiveness of advancing FFP and funding feminist organizations.
- The ripple effects of investing in feminist movements beyond direct beneficiaries.
- The urgency of defending feminist and women’s rights activism in shrinking civic spaces.
- Stories of community leaders achieving tangible results through FFP.
- The positive impact of flexible and sustainable funding models.
What Restless Development is Looking For
Ideal candidates will be experienced journalists, storytellers, or media consultants with a strong understanding of feminist movements and social justice issues in the Majority World. Restless Development values an ethical, non-extractive approach to storytelling, ensuring that the narratives are owned by those being featured.
In line with their values, Restless Development is an equal opportunities employer and encourages applications from all sectors of the community, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, disability, or any other factor.
Practical Details: Timeframe, Budget, and Application
