The FIFA World Cup 26™ is set to be the largest in the tournament’s history, uniting three countries—Canada, Mexico, and the United States—and 16 Host Cities. To support this monumental event, FIFA has officially opened applications for its volunteer programme, aiming to recruit approximately 65,000 volunteers to ensure its successful delivery . This initiative represents the largest volunteer programme for a FIFA event to date, reflecting the expanded 48-team format and the extensive activity planned across North America over six weeks .
Volunteers are considered the “heartbeat” of FIFA events, playing a crucial role in welcoming the world to the tournaments and showcasing local pride. They will provide essential support across 23 functional areas at various official and non-official sites, including stadiums, training facilities, airports, and hotels . FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the invaluable contribution of volunteers, stating they are the “heart, soul and smile of FIFA tournaments” and offer a unique behind-the-scenes view of the event, fostering lasting memories and friendships.
Volunteer Requirements
Key requirements for applicants for the FIFA World Cup 26 volunteer programme include:
- Being at least 18 years old at the time of application .
- Being eligible to volunteer in the host country
- Committing to a minimum of eight shifts during the tournament, which runs from June 11 to July 19, 2026, with some shifts potentially occurring before the official start date .
- Having a good command of English. Proficiency in additional languages, such as Spanish for Mexico or French for Canada, is considered an asset .
- Agreeing to and passing a name check and background information review .
- Attending in-person group recruitment events and completing applicable training .
No prior volunteering experience is required, as FIFA welcomes individuals from all backgrounds and abilities, from students to retirees, united by a passion for football, volunteering, and community

The application process involves several steps, including an online application form, a short online assessment, and potentially an interview and background check . Successful applicants will be invited to attend “Volunteer Team Tryouts,” expected to begin in October 2025, with training sessions following in March 2026, ahead of the tournament’s kickoff on June 11, 2026, in Mexico City
