FULLY FUNDED TO CHINA : Apply now for the Schwarzman Scholarship 2026 Program

The Schwarzman Scholars Program is a prestigious, fully-funded master’s degree program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, designed to cultivate the next generation of global leaders. For the 2026-2027 academic year, the program is seeking a diverse cohort of young, high-caliber individuals with a demonstrated commitment to building a deeper understanding between China and the rest of the world. This one-year program offers a unique blend of academic rigor, cultural immersion, and leadership development.

Program Overview

The Schwarzman Scholars program, founded by Stephen A. Schwarzman, is a one-year Master of Global Affairs degree. The curriculum is taught in English and focuses on three core pillars: Leadership, Global Affairs, and China. Scholars choose one of three academic concentrations: Public Policy, Economics and Business, or International Studies. A key feature of the program is the opportunity for students to engage with a network of distinguished mentors, including business, academic, and government leaders.

Beyond the classroom, the program offers a variety of experiences to provide a hands-on understanding of China and its role in the world. These include a “Deep Dive” field trip to various regions in China, internships, and opportunities to interact with high-level guest speakers. The program culminates in a capstone project, which can be a research paper, case study, or policy analysis.

A Comprehensive and Fully-Funded Scholarship

The Schwarzman Scholarship is one of the most generous in the world, covering all expenses for the year. This includes:

  • Full tuition fees and college fees
  • Room and board
  • Travel to and from Beijing at the start and end of the program
  • An in-country study tour
  • Required course books and supplies
  • A laptop and smartphone
  • Health insurance
  • A personal stipend for daily expenses

The fully-funded nature of the scholarship ensures that financial barriers do not prevent the most promising leaders from around the world from participating.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

The program is open to applicants of all nationalities who are between the ages of 18 and 28 as of August 1, 2026. Applicants must have completed their undergraduate degree before the program begins. There is no requirement for a specific academic major; however, all applicants must demonstrate how the program will help them develop their leadership potential.

The selection process is highly competitive and holistic, considering a candidate’s academic abilities, leadership potential, character, and desire for cross-cultural understanding. Applicants are required to submit an online application, which includes:

  • A resume or CV
  • Two essays (a Leadership Essay and a Statement of Purpose)
  • Academic transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • A video introduction

The application deadline for U.S. and global applicants is September 10, 2025. Chinese passport holders have a separate application timeline, which closed earlier in 2025. Finalists are invited for an interview with a selection committee.
