TITLE: Accountant
REPORTS TO: Country Director – Uganda
DUTY STATION: Kampala/Busia
CONTRACT TYPE: Full-time
SALARY: Commensurate with experience
Job Summary:
The accountant will play an important role in the development of Noonday Children’s Homes finance role in Uganda and will have an excellent opportunity to create the framework needed for success. This person must be an executor, and he/she must get multiple projects done with excellence and meet deadlines. He/she will provide accurate and timely financial and statistical information required by management to make short-term and long-term decisions.
Specific Responsibilities:
Develop Noonday’s financial framework for accountability purposes.
Perform all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, purchasing, bank and account reconciliations.
Manage payment of expenses for children’s needs, in-country travel, infrastructure, and general operations.
Prepare and generate Organizational financial reports on a monthly/periodic basis as required by the Management Team.
Compile and file monthly returns (PAYE, NSSF, WHT, etc.) for NCH Uganda employees and/or suppliers before the prescribed deadlines and submit to the payables desk for processing.
Recommend and implement sound fiscal policies, procedures, and controls.
Visit Noonday property periodically and ensure costs are in line with local prices.
Carry out additional assignments as needed.
Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or relevant field required; solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal controls is imperative.
Three years of relevant work experience preferred, ideally with an international NGO.
Experience with Microsoft Office Applications preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, proven ability to communicate financial information to leadership and staff.
Experience in budget development, planning, and monitoring.
Experience developing and monitoring grant budgets preferred.
Proven ability to produce a professional work product quickly and independently.
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and take them to completion.
Proven ability in financial analysis and reporting.
