The International Community of Women of living with HIV Eastern Africa (ICWEA) is seeking to recruit One (1) Advocacy and Communications Manager.

 

JOB SUMMARY

To lead the develop and execution of the Regional Advocacy & Communication Strategies/plans for ICWEA, that derive their mandate from the Regional Strategic Plan & in the context of Sustainable Development Goals; Global, Regional and National Strategies for HIV, TB, Malaria and SRHR.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead Research and Policy development work;
  • Lead on specific advocacy/policy influencing opportunities and ensure a coherent approach for influencing through ICWEA membership & Country Chapters networks;
  • Create partnerships and linkages with the wider International, Regional and National Women Movement;
  • Support the organisation and country chapters to implement advocacy & communication, monitoring and accountability initiatives at national level;
  • Position the organisation to engage in key global, Regional and National platforms;
  • Form or/and strengthen partnerships with Global, Regional and National partners/organisations e.g. the Global Fund, UNAIDS, UN Women, WHO, Stop TB Partnership, AU, EAC;
  • Lead the development of comprehensive, clear and innovative advocacy messages to strengthen the advocacy and policy work. These may include but not limited to Policy Briefs, Issues Papers, Best Practices and Position Papers;
  • Lead ICWEA Secretariat, members and country Chapters to engage in priority conferences and platforms like the IAC, IAS, CSW, AWID, Women Deliver, HIVP4R, CROI;
  • Develop and manage advocacy budgets including quarterly reforecasting and monitoring of income versus expenditure;
  • Work hand in hand with the Business Development Department to develop and implement fundraising and resource mobilisation strategies
  • Ensure high quality reports clearly communication processes, outcome changes and impact;
  • Ensure a robust M&E framework for the Regional Advocacy and Communication Strategies and effectively implemented, for continuous learning;
  • Participate in strategic planning and review processes
  • Prepare periodic work plans and budgets for advocacy and communication
  • Organize events to promote ICWEA to the public and to stakeholders
  • Maintain positive and supportive relationships with the media
  • Prepare and arrange for the publishing of articles in appropriate journals, magazines, newsletters and other periodicals;
  • Make periodic reports on the advocacy, public relations and communications activities of ICWEA

 

Minimum Academic/Professional Qualifications    

The applicant should hold any of these: Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Media Studies, Journalism, Health Communications, Social Work & Social Administration, Social Sciences/Arts; Development Studies; obtained from a recognized University/institution and any related studies.

 

Additional Training Necessary    

Training in Advocacy & communication

Minimum Experience and Exposure

  • At least three years work experience in programme implementation, advocacy & communication in an NGO; network of PLHIV, KVPs;

 

Special Knowledge   

  • Global, regional and national policies and legislations relating to HIV/AIDS, human rights and gender
  • Practices and trends in HIV/AIDS prevention and care in the region and globally
  • Knowledge in gender audit and analysis
  • Proven knowledge and experience of HIV/TB, SRHR advocacy;
  • Knowledge of resilient community systems for health and or global/regional/national health issues;
  • The person should demonstrate experience in coordination, communication and advocacy activities in NGO related contexts. The person should have a results-oriented approach and proposes ways to innovate and continuously improve our communications products, practices, channels, and messaging.
