African Leadership and Management training for Impact in Malaria Eradication (ALAMIME)

Background

The Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) in collaboration with schools of Public Health in 6 high burden Malaria countries (Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Niger and Burkina Faso), with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is implementing the African Leadership and Management training for impact in Malaria Eradication (ALAMIME) program.

Program aim

The program aims to train malaria program managers and policy makers to increase their analytical and problem-solving skills, informed leadership abilities and implementation of evidence-based policies and approaches that adapt to the changing malaria landscape to support the transition from malaria control to elimination.  Alongside individual capacity building, the program aims to establish a forum within Ministry of Health dedicated to malaria eradication which will bring together stakeholders supporting malaria eradication as well as alumni of the ALAMIME program to drive Malaria eradication efforts in the country.

Programme outlay

The training will cover 180 hours and consists of four online delivered modules:

  • Introduction to leadership and management and data use for malaria elimination
  • Leading and managing programs
  • The science and art of malaria elimination
  • Data use and evidence for decision making.

Each of the four modules will be 40 hours long and will be undertaken in four interspersed weeks.

A practicum will also be taken by the candidates for each of the four taught modules. The total time for the practicum will be 20 hours.

Participants will be supported by their supervisors and the ALAMIME program staff

By the end of the training, participants will prove development of competencies through in-class assessments and development of case studies in their areas of work.

Successful participants will be awarded a Certificate in Governance, Leadership and Management for Malaria Eradication

Eligibility criteria:

Applicants should be public servants working in a malaria control program at National or Sub-National (local government) level in the six consortium member countries (Uganda, Tanzania, Democratic republic of Congo, Nigeria, Niger and Burkina Faso).

Training funding:

The training tuition fee is sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Candidates will not be required to pay any tuition fee.

Deadline for applications: Friday 30th December 2021.

Only successful candidates will be informed by 15th January 2022.

Course start: January 2022
