ROLE PURPOSE

The Content Development Coordinator will be responsible for development of Learning through Play (LTP) content materials for the technical areas of the project and lead on across the region working in collaboration with the Content Development and Partnership Coordinator. He/she will play an active role in the implementation of content materials with the field teams/project officers and support content development processes with Organizations.

 

Playful futures Project is funded by the LEGO Foundation. The project will cover 6 districts in Uganda (Nebbi, Lira, Alebtong, Kamuli, Buyende and Tororo).

The project is aimed at supporting Early Childhood service providers especially Caregivers to teach using Play methodology and promote playful experiences for children that are joyful, meaningful, socially interactive, actively engaging, and interactive. The project goal is to see every child inspired by playful learning, in every setting, every day, at school, in the home, and in the community.

 

Dimensions of the Role

  • Lead in the development of pre- primary school learning materials including subject matter content under Plan International Uganda mandate.
  • Supporting collection and review of existing subject-matter content, documents and curricula materials
  • Support content development and adaptation.
  •  Provide leadership in the translation of materials developed.
  • Support Field team in the distribution of Learning through Play materials
  • Support in the development of project work plans, budget and Monitoring Evaluation and Learning documents.
  • Support deliver and manage training of various stakeholders
  • Work closely with project field staff in implementing Learning through Play content materials and other broader stakeholders.

Child Protection and Gender Equality & Inclusion

Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Key relationships

  • The Content Development Coordinator will work in close collaboration with Content Development Partnership Coordinator, project officers and Education stakeholders at district levels. H/she will specifically maintain regular working relationship with project coordinators, officers and education stakeholders relevant to the task assigned. In addition, H/she will also maintain regular working relationship with other partners implementing similar interventions in the project locations to ensure harmonized programming and implementation of project interventions.

Technical expertise, skills and knowledge

  • Degree in Primary Education/Early Childhood, Child Development, Development Studies, Social Sciences or any relevant field with wide demonstrated relevant experience working with International Non-Governmental Organisations.  Master’s in Education is an added advantage.
  • At least three years of progressively professional work experience in design, curriculum and Content development implementation and evaluation of Primary Education and or Early Childhood Development. Familiarity with Learning through Play strategies is an asset.
  • Excellent riding skills with possession of motorcycle riding permit is a MUST.
  • Excellent project implementation and organization skills.
  •  keep track of multiple priorities and adhere to deadlines
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in report writing and budget management.
  • Ability to Identify and synthesis best practices and lessons learned to promote knowledge management and sustainability.
  • Ability to work in hard to reach hard to stay areas and familiar with programming for vulnerable children especially young girls and boys.
  • Establishes effective partnerships with external stakeholders
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with ability to work with people from diverse cultures
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft software including MS Word processing, Power point presentation, Excel spreadsheets, e-mail and web-based research.
  • Experience of gender mainstreaming, gender equality and inclusion in development programming
  • Experience working with Education or Child protection programmes in a humanitarian context.
