Job Summary

To provide counselling services to Baylor’s clients and their care givers and as well as provide technical support during systems strengthening in Baylor supported clients and clinical counselling related attachments line with the organisation’s counselling and psychosocial guidelines

Overall Responsibilities
  1. Carry out research/fundable proposals and present researched counselling best practices in CMEs, Case conferences and other medical related fora in line with Baylor Uganda research and MOH guidelines.
  2. Oversees the coordination and activities of all counseling for the study
  3. Provides appropriate HIV counseling for participants
  4. Provides test results for participants if needed Participates in study-specific intensive counseling training and practices prior to taking on counseling responsibilities for the study
  5. Conducts informed consent process and interviews participants
  6. Performs informed consent process in accordance with protocol and IRB requirements
  7. Completes CRFs and source documents as appropriate
  8. Identifies participants with adherence challenges and develops strategies for addressing such challenges.
  9. Prepare clients and caregivers for HIV testing, acceptance of test results and antiretroviral therapy for exposed infants, then give information in regard to HIV/AIDs care and treatment services available in line with Ministry of Health Counselling guidelines.
  10. Conduct post test counseling, assess their readiness for antiretroviral therapy then build their capacity in regard to ‘positive living for HIV infected clients and their families’ and ‘prevention measures for HIV negatives’ in lines Counselling SOP.
  11. Prepare eligible clients and their families for HAART as a lifelong treatment, assess their readiness to start HAART, then monitor and support on drug adherence issues in accordance with the HAART counselling guidelines.
  12. Record clients information and maintain clients’ records while observing confidentiality in accordance with Good clinical practices.
  13. Build the capacity of counseling stakeholders at Baylor supported health facilities and trainees on attachment at Baylor COE basing on capacity needs of the trainees through training, mentorship and support supervision in line with the Counseling SOP and Baylor Uganda capacity building guidelines.
  14. Provide psychosocial support counseling helping HIV infected mothers to choose appropriate infant feeding options in line with EID and infant feeding guidelines.
  15. Conduct general Health education sessions to patients, and caretakers attending Baylor-Uganda clinic and psychosocial support counselling during meetings for peer support groups, Teen mothers and care takers in line with the Baylor Uganda Counseling SOPs.
  16. Prepare periodic reports on counselling activities as per the counseling BSC in line with Baylor Uganda Counseling SOPs.
Required Qualification, Experience and Competencies:
  • ·       A Degree in counselling or any degree with post graduate, formal training of HIV / AIDS from a recognized institution.·       At least 3 Years’ Experience in HIV/AIDS Counselling in a busy clinical or hospital based setting and 2 Years’ Experience in a reputable clinical or hospital based setting.
  • ·       Experience in training and counseling, medical background would an added advantage.
  • 3 Years Relevant Experience
