Job Description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities, we restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. The IRC leads the way from harm to home.

The IRC has been working in Uganda since 1998 supporting IDPs, refugees and various institutions in the country notably the government, community-based organizations, the civil society and the private sector. The current program portfolio in Uganda includes health and nutrition, economic recovery and development, protection, and prevention and response to gender-based violence (GBV). IRC has its country office in Kampala and regional offices in Yumbe, Arua, Moroto, Kitgum, Lamwo, Amudat, Kyegegwa and Isingiro districts. IRC is currently expanding to Kiryandongo in the health sector.

The IRC has been working in Uganda since 1998 supporting IDPs, refugees and various institutions in the country notably the government, community based organizations, the civil society and the private sector. Components include protection monitoring, information dissemination, protection case management, promotion of social cohesion, psychosocial support and legal services – all incorporating a community based protection approach.

The COVID-19 pandemic underscores the urgency of systematically strengthening community-based structures and empowering local humanitarian leadership to increase access to critical information, ramp up protection support and enhance access to justice for diverse refugee and vulnerable communities taking into account gender, age, nationality, legal status, disability and other vulnerability factors.
