JOB SUMMARY:

Water For People is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) that works with people and partners to develop innovative and long-lasting solutions to the water, sanitation, and hygiene problems globally. The Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to Water For People staff and visitors while ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues.

The Driver also demonstrates a client – oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Additionally, the driver drives the office vehicle for transporting authorized employees  and delivery/collection of mail, documents and other items for the Water For People project offices.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:  

  • Ensure provision of reliable and safe driving for Water For People staff, officials and visitors and safe delivery and collection of mail, documents and any other cargo.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident reports, indemnity reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records as required.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is kept clean and tidy.
  • Carry out weekly maintenance checks on the vehicle and provide reports and equipped with emergency/first aid kit.
  • Comply fully with Water For People Uganda procedures on the reporting of accidents involving Water For People Uganda vehicles, including reporting any damages, mechanical faults or accidents that may occur.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is parked safely at all times.
  • Ensure availability of all required documents including, proof of ownership, valid driving license, vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, emergency phone contacts, Water For People Uganda Security SOPs, first aid kit and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
  • Ensure that all visitors travelling to the field are supplied with Field Visit Participant Waiver, in advance of the visit and a signed copy is returned and filed by the relationship manager prior to the commencement of the visit
  • Support staff while in the field or at the office.
  • Perform any other tasks as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED

  • O’ Level qualification with at least a Pass in English & Mathematics. Possession of A’ Level qualification will be added advantage.
  • Must possess a valid driving permit of at least class B. Possession of classes CM, DL or DM is preferred.
  • Defensive driving, basic skills in vehicle fault diagnosis and trouble-shooting,
  • 3 years’ work experience with Non-Governmental Organizations or donor agency.
  • Good interpersonal relationship, communication skills and dealing with security matters.
  • Courteous, patient, and respectful.
  • Knowledge of at least 3 local languages and basic English
  • Knowledge of road network in Uganda

 

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Position is based at Water For People’s Uganda office.
  • Position requires regular travel to program sites in Uganda.
