Must have a bank account or access to a bank account, a valid ID card, PIN/Social Security number, postal/physical address,

Must have a Bachelors in Journalism or Communication, or similar field, from a recognised Institution,

Must be between 21 – 28 years old

Must have basic understanding of social media & how to promote & tag post for audiences

Must be able to share a print, audio, video, photography or form of digital work published on legacy or established digital media platforms,

Must be able to speak English and at least one of their own national dialects fluently,

Be willing and able to travel to Kampala or Nairobi to collect and return equipment,

Must have access to a smartphone with data capabilities,
Project Requirements

Must commit to attend all the trainings provided under the project, and must commit to producing five (5) high-quality publishable stories by the end of the project period; both outputs are detailed under ‘Project Goals & Outputs’

Will commit to feedback and evaluation of work from Project Coordinator and GSMC

Post training will produce a minimum of three (3) media outputs that will be submitted for evaluation and feedback prior to production of final five (5) stories.
Hiring
The individuals selected as Field Journalists will be hired via contract for a period of 14 months by The Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media & Communications via the European Commission grant under the AKDN Regional Eastern Africa Covid-19 Response Partnership.
Each individual selected for this position will be required to sign a legally binding contract governed by the laws of their country.
The contract signed will be for a period of 14 months from date of hire.
Payment
Payment for each story produced will be disbursed as follows:
Each field journalist will be entitled to $ 500 per story paid in arrears as follows:

50% of $500 ($250) will be paid to the field journalist upon submission of each story.

$1,250 will be paid after completion and submission of the 5th and final story and upon hand over of the all equipment issued at the time of commissioning.
Payment will be made via bank transfer from AKU to the Individuals own account. All deductibles i.e. tax and bank charges will be borne by the recipient.
