World Vision Uganda (WVU) is a Christian relief, development and advocacy non-government organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. We currently work in 43 districts and have 48 Area Programmes implementing projects in health & nutrition, water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), livelihoods & resilience, education and child protection. Position:         Gender & Disability Inclusion Specialist (Re – Advertised)
Report to:       Programme Quality Director

Purpose of the position:

 

To provide guidance, evidence and representation on behalf of WV Uganda in mainstreaming of gender and social inclusion (including disability) programming in both national and programme/ project level planning & operations in line with World Vision partnership and World Vision Uganda strategic directions and policies.

 

Key Outputs/Responsibilities.

Gender & Social Inclusion programming / mainstreaming (50%)

  • Develop and roll-out gender sensitive approaches and guidelines that direct gender mainstreaming in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of World Vision programmes / projects.
  • Build the capacity of WVU staff and partners in gender analysis skills and gender programming tools to enhance gender mainstreaming in Programmes / Projects
  • Provide Technical support to Gender integration in programme development designs, baselines, evaluations and assessments
  • Participate in strategy monitoring and reporting
  • Coordinate processes of research, documentation and regular sharing of best practices and innovations for learning and policy influencing at the local, national regional and international levels

 

Management of global gender dashboards ensuring Compliance to WV standards (10%)

  • Organizational Gender Self-Assessment conducted
  • Lead and Guide processes of reviewing the gender policy, gender score cards & gender alignment by technical programmes partnership standards
  • Maintain gender global minimum standards maintained as within required standards

External engagements and collaboration (15%)

  • Build and nurture strategic partnerships, networks and coalitions with line ministries, development partners, donors, civil society organizations, and private sector to lobby and influence gender responsive policies, laws and funding.
  • Participate in national gender networks and forums like Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development engagements, The National GBV Prevention Network, the Gender Working Group of Forum for Education NGOs, The Adolescents Girls’ Campaign Task Force, among others.
  • Build and publish evidence of impact for Gender mainstreaming

 

Resource mobilization (15%)

  • Develop fundable proposals for gender and inclusion Projects
  • Contribute to development of sector based fundable proposals

 

Disability and inclusion (10%)

  • Establish and strengthen partnership and collaboration for effective disability inclusion at all levels
  • Strengthen capacity of staff and partners in disability mainstreaming
  • Develop strategies for programming and mainstreaming disability in projects and technical programmes
  • Support coordination of the implementation of disability related projects

 

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience.

  • Minimum of a degree in gender and development studies, social sciences or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the gender programming; most preferably related to food security, livelihoods, health, education, and child protection
  • Experience working with a variety of stakeholders and partners related to gender equality and disability, including UN agencies, Governments and civil society organizations.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of gender, age, disability and other socio-cultural factors that influence development
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead in the collection, gender analysis, and utilization of information from a broad range of sources in order to ensure effective integration of gender and disability concerns throughout the Programme/ project cycles
  • Ability to foster commitment and build capacity among activity staff and in-country actors on gender integration and empowerment, including training and workshop facilitation skills and experience
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to work with a diverse and multicultural team in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Master’s degree in Gender Studies or a related field (Social Sciences, development studies) preferred.
  • Qualification in Disability inclusion as added advantage
  • Experience in programming and implementing a disability inclusion project is an added advantage
