WWF-Uganda Country Office is looking for experienced, dynamic and committed professionals to support the Greater Virunga Landscape (GVL) Programme. The World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is one of the largest independent conservation organizations in the world. We are an international NGO committed to environmental protection active in almost 100 countries. WWF has growing conservation interventions in the GVL area with programmes in Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo and in Rwanda through its flagship coalition initiative, the International Gorilla Conservation Programme (IGCP). WWF works with regional, national and local government agencies, private sector, civil society organizations (CSOs) and the local communities to implement its various conservation programmes commonly referred to as practices; Energy/Climate, Forestry, Wildlife, and Freshwater in the region.

Position: Greater Virunga Landscape (GVL) Coordinator

Reports to: WWF Uganda Country Director with a dotted reporting line to the WWF Country Director in DRC and Director of the International Gorilla Conservation Programme (IGCP)

Location: Uganda, with frequent travel to Rwanda and DRC

Duration: Two years (with possibility of renewal)

Major Function

WWF seeks to establish a coalition of interdisciplinary NGOs working in the GVL that make an explicit commitment to coordinate with one another, aligning to co-develop an overarching GVL strategy and shared vision that strengthens existing mechanisms for strategic, transboundary and collaborative management through government, nongovernment and private partnerships.

The GVL Coordinator will lead the coalition building, the design and implementation of the Greater Virunga Landscape (GVL) strategy. The GVL Coordinator will facilitate a coalition led strategy development process enabling bottom-up development of a people-centered, transboundary landscape initiative that will embrace integrated and holistic approaches, as well as learning and sharing of experiences.
