 The Head of Innovation and Product Development is a member of Senior Management and will be responsible for driving and management of the innovation process within FINCA Uganda.  This involves defining new technology and proposing innovation opportunities, verifying new business needs and translating these to demand, managing ongoing infrastructure improvement and innovation process to ensure evolution of service that meets business needs and requirements.

He/she will work closely with the local and global management team on strategy implementation and monitoring of the new business line in full compliance with local laws, regulations, and internal policies and procedures.

Key duties and responsibilities:

The Head of Innovation and Product Development will be responsible for the following:

  1. Developing new business innovation, adopting and applying both leading innovation methodology and emerging technologies to create new/alternative/disruptive business solutions that are viable and profitable and enable FINCA Uganda’s competitiveness.
  1. Leading and directing the development of the innovation strategy within FINCA Uganda with the aim of simplifying delivery of FINCA Uganda to clients, including leading edge strategic solutions, coordination and execution. To drive and co-ordinate proposition development based on clients’ needs and product expertise across the FINCA Uganda.
  1. Contributing to the development of Digital Transformation Strategies and drive execution and oversight.
  1. Devising and implementing solutions and innovations strategies for Digital Transformation Initiatives and for the various customer segments.
  1. Providing strategic and operational leadership and be responsible for formulating the strategic direction of solutions and innovations within a specific sector and ensure the execution thereof in line with the business strategy.
  1. Setting the strategic direction for solutions and innovation within a specific sector whilst aligning the objectives with overall FINCA Uganda goals.
  1. Evaluating the external environment continuously and assess the impact on the Business Unit’s activities. Where required, discuss any changes which may result in an overall strategic impact with the management and thereafter make the agreed amendments to plans.
  1. Allocating resources across the business unit to ensure that strategic and tactical plans are enabled at all times.
  1. Communicating the strategy to the management and ensuring a deep understanding across the whole business.
  1. Investigating existing marketing and business practices and recommending opportunities to enhance revenues

Qualifications and Experience: 

  1. Bachelor of Economics, Finance, Marketing, Commerce or Information Technology, Business Administration, Project Planning and Management and any business related discipline. A certificate in Financial Inclusion or Financial Technology is an added advantage
  2. Minimum of 4years of demonstrated experiences in Senior Management position involved in strategy.
  3. Minimum 3 years of experience in New Product Development, financial inclusion initiatives, digital financial services and payment solutions
  4. Experience of working with MNO’s, FINTECHs, Regulators and Financial Institutions is an added advantage
  5. At least 1 year experience in project planning and management

  • Good interpersonal skills and stakeholder management
  • Excellent business acumen
  • Good leadership and decision making skills
