The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries.

The Opportunity

As the Head of Programme Implementation, you will be responsible for ensuring that programmes and projects are implemented to the highest standard and quality for impact on the lives of children as defined in the Plan International Uganda (PIU) country strategy. You will be accountable for the delivery of projects being on time, scope and budget as per the project management standards. Reporting into the Country Director, you will also work closely with the Head of Programme Strategy whilst also managing direct reports.

In this role you will be responsible for ensuring knowledge management and learning is shared and taken into consideration in new projects and programmes, whilst also continually monitoring and evaluating programme implementation to determine necessary adaptations in order to meet programme goals and objectives. This role will involve regular travel (at least 2 weeks per month outside of the Kampala office) to programme sites to ensure project objectives are being met and Country Office technical staff are closely connected to field operations.

The Individual

We are looking to recruit a proactive and organised individual who has a proven track record of excellent programme cycle management within a complex organisational structure. You will have demonstrable experience in humanitarian response or development work and you will have team leadership and development experience with diverse national and international staff. Your stakeholder engagement skills will be strong, as will your ability to manage information systems and tools for analysis.

To be successful in this role you will have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and you will have the ability to analyse and synthesise complex issues. You will have strong analytical skills and you will proactively organise and manage performance. You will demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and integrity and you will be confident in taking initiative and exploring new opportunities.
