Our Client in the financial sector is looking to identify results-driven, visionary, strategic thinking experienced, and highly qualified leaders with excellent credentials, proven experience, demonstrated capacity, and know-how to fill the position of Head Technology & Operations

As a member of ExCo, the Head of Technology & Operations (HTO) shares responsibility for ensuring the success and sustainability of the Bank; in particular by developing and executing the Bank’s Strategy. The HTO is responsible both for ensuring a comprehensive state-of-the-art technology infrastructure that effectively manages a centralized and fully-integrated technology system, and for directing and controlling the bank’s back-office operations to ensure that they are optimized to deliver the bank’s strategic objectives. In particular, this involves leading the bank’s digital transformation and continually finding new ways to improve our customer experience, while maintaining operational excellence and cost-effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Embed Customer Obsession with Winning Propositions
    • Lead and maintain system stability and security to ensure customer convenience and Bank’s image.
    • Innovation: Lead the Bank’s innovation to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  2. Become Digital & Data Driven
    • Digital & Customer Centricity – Revamp the bank’s digital platforms to enhance efficiency & customer experience
    • Data & Technology: Ensure that the bank is cost-effectively resourced with reliable and up-to-date business technology and infrastructure to enable digital solutions and support third-party integrations; including in-house data infrastructure and technologies to support customer and business insights.
  3. Build a High-Performance Culture
    • Productivity: Optimize the bank’s processes so that they efficiently support outstanding CX.
    • Talent and Organization: Redesign organization structure to deliver on strategic priorities, transform culture and address skill gaps across the organization.
  4. Financial
    • Costs: Lead the development and implementation of strategies for enhancing cost-effectiveness within the bank; achieve a long-term reduction in operational costs by transitioning from manual to digital systems.
  5. Customer
    • Domain Support: Ensure full understanding of the needs of the internal customers served by the Operations Domain; develop and implement strategies, systems, and practices that deliver quality, timely, results.
    • Product Development: Work collaboratively with the Banking Divisions and the Marketing & Business Solutions Domain to develop the bank’s portfolio of products, in line with winning value propositions; modernize applications and technology to support rapid delivery of products to market.
  6. Process and Risk
    • Risk and Compliance: Ensure the development of a strong culture of risk and compliance management; take responsibility for the implementation of risk-management controls and for statutory compliance within the Technology & Operations Domain.
  7. Learning and Capacity
    • Innovation: Lead the development and implementation of an innovation and digital transformation strategy that measurably enhances the bank’s competitive position; encourages the development of a bank-wide culture of learning & innovation.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in ICT or related fields like Data Analytics, Digital Transformation, etc.
  • A master’s Degree or Professional qualification in IT or a related discipline will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in managing digital transformation in the finance sector and/or automating operations.
  • At least 10 years of work experience, five of which should be at a senior level in a large financial services institution

Technical competencies:

  • Ability to lead on ‘agile’ as a way of working, and a proven track record of leading innovation projects
  • Strong knowledge and experience in leading IT Policy and Planning, Financial Networks and System Architecture, Business Applications, Financial Information Systems, Cyber Security Technologies, Payment Technologies, etc.
  • Strong understanding of banking operations including e-banking as well as transactional banking; good knowledge of FinTech trends
  • Knowledge of Ugandan banking regulations, deposit operations, and risk controls
