The Organization

The Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS) is an independent, honorific, service-oriented organization that provides evidence-informed advice to the government and
nation on matters of science, technology, innovation, and development. Founded in October 2000, UNAS has provided unparalleled service to government and society as a whole on such matters as tobacco prevention and control, aid effectiveness, country ownership of national development, malaria prevention and control, HIV/AIDS prevention and control, biotechnology, education systems, urbanization, immunization, domestic financing, climate change, air pollution, and many more. UNAS is a member of the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC), and Inter-Academy
Partnership (IAP), and has bilateral agreements with other academies across the world.

The Positions

UNAS has two vacant positions, the Research Officer (RO), and the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Officer.

The officers will have the freedom to work closely with Fellows of the Academy (members of the scientific community nominated and selected for their meritorious conduct and
scientific excellence to serve pro bono) on a wide range of issues relevant to Uganda’s development.

As a Research Officer with UNAS, you will conduct extensive secondary research, work with a wide range of stakeholders to shape consensus studies and convening activities. You will be challenged to learn new approaches to thinking and working in a dynamic organization that responds to key societal needs.

As a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Officer with UNAS, you will conduct extensive and detailed analyses of the Academy’s output and impact of its work, with an emphasis
on promoting organizational effectiveness and efficiency.

Additionally, you will also be involved in the execution of some consensus and convening activities under the Academy’s existing programs. You will be challenged to undertake a
review of the Academy’s current strategic plan (2018-2023) and serve as the key official responsible for drafting the organization’s next five-year strategic plan (2023-2028).
