JOB OPENING: LAB TECHNICIANS (4 POSITIONS)
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) with support from Malaria Action
Plan for Districts (MAPD) seeks to hire suitable candidates for the position of LABORATORY
TECHNICIAN to conduct antimalarial therapeutic efficacy studies. The successful candidate
will be based at any one of the following sites namely Arua, Busia, and Kanungu district.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Carry out laboratory screening of patients
2. Preparation, Staining, reading and storage of blood smears
3. Collection and storage of filter paper samples for performance of molecular studies on
malaria
4. Recording results of laboratory evaluations
5. Keeping record of all laboratory activities
6. Perform laboratory quality assurance for all laboratory procedures;
7. Perform other tests as requested by the Medical Officer

1) Participants correctly screened, evaluated, enrolled and followed up
2) All laboratory procedures correctly performed and quality assured
3) Accurate and timely entry, tracking and recording of information on all source
documents
4) Accurate and timely resolution of data queries
Qualifications and other desirables for the job:
1. Diploma or Degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Sciences from a
recognized Institution
2. At least 3 years work experience in a similar setting and or performing a similar activity
3. Good communication, interpersonal skills and networking skills
4. Integrity and ability to develop a productive working relationship with District Health
Teams
5. Ability to operate in a fast and diverse environment
6. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the study areas is a MUST (Arua, Busia, and
Kanungu districts)
