The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) seeks to hire 2 suitable candidates to fill the position of MIDWIFE for a new project called SEARCH SAPPHIRE. This position will be based in South Western Uganda and the successful candidates will report to the Prevention Coordinator.

Purpose of the Position: The Midwife will be responsible for the day-day running of the ANC and FP prevention trials at the study sites and will recruit and enrol study participants, follow them up and collect research data.

Job description

1. Charged with triage of women at the study clinic.

2. Ensure participants are seen on time and the clinic opens Mon-Sun 8am-5pm, when on duty.

3. Participate in recruitment of participants for the SEARCH SAPPHIRE study.

4. Participate in screening of study participants and obtain informed consent from study
participants or their parents/guardians.

5. Participate in entering laboratory results into case record forms and filing of the result slips.

6. Ensure that blood and other samples are collected as per study schedule and disbursed to the testing laboratories.

7. Maintain confidentiality of study records and research findings as appropriate.

8. Compile and submit periodic and interim reports to the coordinators.

9. Responsible for ensuring that study data are collected, case report forms are completed and backing up data regularly.

10. Charged with clinical evaluation of study participants who may have complaints of possible Adverse Events and to adjudicate whether their symptoms and physical exams meet the criteria for adverse events.

11. Compliment efforts of the other clinical officers already at the health centre.

12. Ensure study participant details are captured in appropriate MOH registers as per national guidelines.

Qualifications and other desirables for the job:

● Diploma in Midwifery or Bachelors Degree in Nursing from a reputable institution.

● At least two-years progressive work experience in a clinical and/or community HIV research setting with a reputable institution.

● Registered with Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council with a valid practicing license.

● Previous training in HIV combination prevention including PrEP delivery is an added
advantage.

● Being fluent in Runyankore and other languages used in South Western Uganda is an
added advantage.

● Must have good computer and interpersonal skills.

● Must have valid GCP and PHRP certificates.
