On behalf of our client, we are looking for a competent, skilled, and experienced Procurement Manager to work in Uganda.
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you will be responsible for on-boarding and managing the relationship with key suppliers. You will also be responsible for the P&L of all the allocated category accounts and will be expected to report on this.

Key Roles and responsibilities
- Gross Margin growth: Responsible for growing the gross margin of the product categories by continuous negotiation of pricing and terms with suppliers and maintaining an accurate and competitive retail selling price for each of the products within the respective categories;
- Demand planning: Using available technology tools (ERP and tableau), the Category Manager is required to accurately forecast purchasing of all stock items, based on sales projections from sales;
- Working Capital Management: Balancing inventory levels and supplier credit terms, ensure that a minimum level of cash is tied up in inventory at any one time. The Category Manager will also need to work with the warehouse team, sales and finance to determine disposal of slow-moving items;
- Market Research: Determine best possible suppliers of goods and services required by evaluating cost and service provide;
- Product database maintenance: The Category Manager is responsible for creating and maintaining product information within the ERP for all portfolio categories;
- Customer Satisfaction: Ensuring that the company Catalogue offering is continuously updated to reflect market availability and to increase sales across all product offering. The Category Manager is responsible for reducing non-deliveries to customers due to Out of Stocks;
- Timely communication of all procurement related issues across relevant departments to ensure optimal customer satisfaction;
- Ad-hoc procurement related projects as assigned from time to time;
- Providing mentoring and on the job training of Category Leads as needed.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management.
- Professional certification will be an added advantage.
- Comprehensive understanding of MS Excel, MS Word and industry standard purchase order software platforms.
- 5+ years of experience specific to e-commerce/FMCG purchasing, product management, vendor management.
- You have directly negotiated pricing and terms with suppliers/manufactures;
- You have experience in sourcing consumer goods;
- You have experience in negotiating with external vendors;
- You have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills visual, written, and verbal;
- You have the ability to network, gain trust with co-workers, open to new ideas, and can deliver a decision in a professional manner;
- You have problem solving skills- identify and resolve problems in a creative, collaborative, and timely manner with a view of the big picture and making difficult decisions;
- You are excellent in Excel and extracting data through varied reporting tools to drive and influence business decisions
- You have the ability to prioritize work in a complex, fast-paced environment.
- You are a self-starter, who is flexible, action and results oriented.
- You must be able to work in a highly demanding but collegial environment where teamwork is a key.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong negotiating skills (both in once-off deals as well as when it come to a LT relationship that should be based on a ‘win win’ model of negotiation;
- Well-developed interpersonal skills;

- Strong analytical skills to interpret terms and price and understand the net price of ‘things’;
- Attention to detail (keen on digesting the small print in agreements)
