The position

About the Project

The AKDN East Africa COVID-19 Response Project will provide rapid response funds to various local Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to enable them to reach their most vulnerable constituents with support based on their emerging needs arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. The program will also provide a platform, comprising Human Centered Design workshops, flexible grants, and mentorship, to support young entrepreneurs to design innovative business solutions that will meet the medium to short term needs of the community emerging from the pandemic. The 2.5year project will be implemented in Central and West Nile (Arua) regions of Uganda.

Position Description

The Foundation is looking for a dynamic Finance and Grants Officer to manage efficient operation of the programme’s financial management processes and procedures and facilitate production of quality financial reports to support timely decision making. The Officer will also be responsible for providing support to partners/beneficiaries of flexible response funds to ensure that the funds are well managed and properly reported on.

Key responsibilities

  • Preparation of grant and management financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Participate in ongoing analysis, forecasting and review of project expenses and appraise the project manager on key issues for action.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and donor financial policies, as well as tax and other applicable requirements.
  • Maintain sub-grant financial records and coordinate with the program department to reconcile financial records with sub-grants awarded.
  • Monitor financial compliance of sub-grantees and bring any potential non-compliance issues to the attention of the Finance and program heads. Provide guidance and support to subgrantees/beneficiaries of the response funds to ensure the proper financial management of the funds disbursed to them.
  • Ensure proper reconciliation of the financial and administrative functions with fieldwork processes through coordination and consultation with the other programme staff.
  • Ensure that assets are adequately recorded, monitored, safeguarded and disposed of in the most efficient and effective manner, in order to minimize risk of loss, mismanagement and increased cost of maintenance.

The requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in finance and Accounting.
  • Full professional qualification ACCA / CPA is and added advantage
  • At least three (3) years financial administration experience.
  • At least three (3) years’ experience working with international organizations and/or Non-Governmental Organizations which are multi funded.
  • Proficiency in using FIS, iscala / business dynamics.
  • Understanding of budget and cost control management essential.
  • Ability to work under pressure and efficiently handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work under own initiative or as a part of a team.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office products Word, Excel and PPT and other relevant software and tools.
  • Local National Candidates Strongly Preferred.
  • Strong report writing skills.
