1.0 Organizational Background

Uganda Healthcare Federation (UHF) is a non-profit umbrella organization affiliated to the East Africa Healthcare Federation. The organization is a professional association representing the private health sector in Uganda. The Federation’s purpose includes advocating and supporting its members in policy and other decision making forums, representing its members at both the national and country levels, providing networking and training opportunities to improve quality of health services delivered, strengthen business skills and enhance market opportunities in healthcare, and provide an annual conference for the education of its members and exchange of information on issues essential to the quality and business of healthcare in Uganda.

2.0 Membership Summary

Uganda Healthcare Federation has a membership of over 60 non-state health related recognized associations and organizations in Uganda including; medical service providers, medical insurers, health professional associations, human resources in health, health training institutions, health facilities, ICT companies in health, manufacturers of health related products as well as health civil society partners and social franchises. UHF members are offered a unique connection with both local and international health sector influencers at exclusive events such as the East Africa Healthcare Federation annual conference.

UHF is a member based organization with four membership categories including; Corporate membership, professional associations, institutional associations, National level partnership organizations and PNFPs. The current membership is further grouped into sub sectors based on the Health Systems Strengthening 6 pillars of WHO including; Health professional and capacity building; Service delivery and healthcare access and finance; Manufacturing and industry; ICT innovation and other technology; Social marketing and social franchising; Traditional and complementary medicine.

 

1.1 Purpose of the position

The overall purpose of the Private Sector Engagement Intern is to provide administrative support to the Private Sector Coordinator (PSC) on membership related programs and activities from time to time for the six months of this agreement.

 

1.2 Roles and responsibilities

  • The Private Sector Engagement intern shall support the Private Sector Coordinator (PSC) in recruiting and retaining UHF members.
  • Support the Private Sector Coordinator in organizing member related meetings including; monthly private health sector platform meetings, quarterly RMNCAH platform meetings, private sector conventions, conferences and networking events.
  • Support the secretariat in organizing and executing the EAHF conference.
  • Support the PSC in organizing an Annual General Meeting and Board meetings.
  • Support arrangements for meetings, presentations, seminars and trainings organized for members.
  • Participate in mobilization of stakeholders (including private health providers, KCCA, civil
  • society organizations, government representatives, etc.) to participate in UHF programs and activities.
  • Write minutes and reports from the various member meetings and events including minutes of the various MOH Technical Working Group meetings.
  • Attend UHF members’ meetings and events representing the Federation.
  • Participate in data collection and information gathering assignments aimed at improving member benefits and services.
  • Support the PSC in coming up with short write ups and briefs for the UHF E-newsletter, bulletins, website and social media.
  • Regularly update the UHF membership database and membership status.
  • Keep records of all information related to the membership for documentation, clarification and presentation to management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

3. Work Station

  • The Private Sector Engagement Intern will mainly operate within Kampala based at the UHF headquarters in Kamwokya.
  • Due to the nature of federation’s activities, the Private Sector Engagement Intern will engage in membership field activities as and when they arise.

 

4. Expected Deliverables

  • Monthly activity report at end of each month detailing the activities in which the intern participated as well as achievements in the month, challenges and proposals for improvement.
  • Activity reports of individual membership activities.

 

5.0 Supervision

The Private Sector Engagement Intern will be directly supervised by the Private Sector Coordinator at UHF.

 

6.0 Required Competencies Project Intern

§ Relevant qualifications in any one of these academic disciplines; Communications, Marketing, Social Work Administration and Jounalism.

§ At least 2 years of experience in conducting similar activities in an organization of a similar nature.

§ Experience in activity programing with an excellent track record of completion of tasks in a timely manner.

§ A proven track record of professionalism and ethical conduct.

§ Excellent communication skills, especially ability to write very good English.

§ Knowledge of maternal, neonatal, child health and nutrition would be an advantage.

§ Ability to work with minimum supervision.
