EGPAF Uganda Country program scope involves: 1) the USAID Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services in the South West Uganda project that aims to increase the availability, accessibility, and quality of integrated health services including HIV and TB prevention, care and treatment; maternal, neonatal, and child health services; family planning; nutrition assessment and counseling and support; malaria prevention and treatment; and other primary care services. 2) ELMA-funded Unfinished business project that focuses on closing the Adult-Pediatric ART gap; 3) Catalyzing Pediatric TB Innovations (CaP – TB) and 4) Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DnDI); 5) New Horizons project focusing on ALHIV Treatment Access and 6) The Pediatric HIV Breakthrough Partnership (ViiV Project).

Position:                                            Technical Advisor – Pediatric Care and Treatment

Job summary

The Technical Advisor Pediatric Care and Treatment will be responsible for supporting the processes needed to improve pediatric HIV care and treatment in the region. S/He will also be working with MOH to roll out the quality improvement initiatives and strengthen pediatric HIV care and treatment. S/He will be working closely with a team of other Technical Advisors and Program Officers to support implementation in the region.

Core Responsibilities:

  • S/He will provide technical leadership to the EGPAF Uganda pediatric HIV programs and ensure technical soundness of the program
  • S/He will participate in the development of pediatric HIV work plans at the regional level, district, CSOs and health facilities.
  • Provide technical assistance to MOH pediatric HIV care and treatment program
  • Work closely with the NDA, National ART and pediatric HIV technical working groups to support the introduction and roll out of the new pediatric ART formulations
  • Support the MOH in developing training materials, job aides and IEC materials for pediatric ART with a special focus on the new pediatric formulations.
  • Coordinate with other stakeholders and implementing partners to roll out the new pediatric formulations
  • Promote the documentation of best practices and lessons learnt that can be shared at sub-national, national and international for a
  • Write high level summary progress reports for stakeholder updates
  • Perform other duties to support the program as assigned

Required Qualifications and Capabilities:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery and Master’s degree in Medicine (Pediatrics)
  • At least 3 years’ experience in provision of technical support for planning and implementing HIV/AIDS prevention, control and case management
  • Experience working/collaborating with ministry of health and other Implementing Partners on the implementation of technically sound public health programmes including HIV prevention, care and treatment interventions
  • Sound understanding of current issues and developments in the field of HIV/AIDS and especially PMTCT, ART and Pediatric care and treatment
  • Prior experience coordinating and implementing HIV & AIDS quality improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent training and mentorship/coaching skills and experience in coordinating large scale capacity building initiatives
  • Knowledge in health care operations research
  • Knowledge in work planning and report writing
  • Strong inter personal, oral and written communication skills including the development of reports
  • Ability to work and deliver results with minimal supervision
