Role Definition:

The purpose of this position is to ensure that measures are designed for implementation of appropriate consultation processes that achieve free, prior and informed participation of affected people and communities in decision – making related to resettlement, promoting continued participation of PAPs during resettlement as well as coordinate developing and implementation of resettlement plans, collect resettlement data and propose corrective actions where necessary.

 

Key Result Areas:

  1. Relocation Management
    1. Propose measures to manage diverse impacts of resettlement in a manner that is consistent with the objective of the project.
    2. Studies the inventory of loss reports to determine the magnitude and implications of physical relocations.
    3. Works with project team to identify and propose relocation sites.
    4. Coordinates analysis of relocation related impacts and proposes mitigation measures.
    5. Disseminates identified resettlement options to the different affected physical affected households and institutions.
    6. Plans resettlement and relocation in consultation with the affected persons.
    7. Manages RAP implementation for relevant cases.
    8. Carries out consultations with and information disclosure to affected households and host communities to be physically relocated.
    9. Supports the implementation of resettlement activities by acting as the principal point of day-to-day contact with households and institutions to be physically relocated.
  2. Social studies; Participate in social studies to determine available and preferred resettlement options.
  3. Livelihood Restoration: Liaises with valuers and surveyors and livelihood teams to coordinate delivery of the Resettlement Assistance Packages.
  4. Grievance Management; Manages relocation related grievances in consultation with the other project team.
  5. Staff management
    1. Set performance targets and supervise the works of Junior Sociologists on the project.
    2. Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

 

Required Academic Qualifications:

  1. An Honors Degree in Sociology or Anthropology or Community Psychology or Social Development.
  2. Any other Post graduate qualifications in the relevant field will be an added advantage.
  3. Computer literacy is a must.

 

Experience and Knowledge:

  1. At least Five (5) years working experience on a complex project, handling Project Affected Persons, participating in social data collection, preparation of Resettlement Action Plans and Social Impact Assessments.
  2. Demonstrated working experience in managing diverse professionals.

  1. High level of integrity.
  2. Ability to work as part of a team and to develop subordinates.
  3. Excellent interpersonal, particularly staff/management relations, oral and written communication skills.
  4. Ability to deliver accurate results in a timely manner and in an environment with multiple and challenging tasks.
