ABOUT EAVCA

The East Africa Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (EAVCA) is the trade association for private capital providers, including private equity and venture capital firms, investing in East Africa. Established in 2013, the firm has grown in its membership to represent over 90 companies that operate in the private capital ecosystem, across five East African markets: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Ethiopia. Cumulatively, EAVCA members have over US$3 billion in assets under management which they seek to invest in a range of sectors such as: agriculture, education, healthcare, consumables, manufacturing, infrastructure, and others.

At the core of what the association does is the advancement and promotion of East Africa as a private capital destination, while ensuring a favorable environment for trade for the start-up and SME sector.

UGANDA CHAPTER

EAVCA is looking to launch its chapter in Uganda given the growing number of active providers of long-term risk capital to Small and Medium-sized businesses and the need to further collaborate and grow the overall sector in the country.

Mission:

Promote Uganda as a private capital destination, while ensuring a favorable environment for trade and investment in the local Ugandan private business sector.

Scope of Activities:

EAVCA’s framework for action leans on its four pillars to catalysing and enabling the private capital market: (i)

Advocacy (ii) Intelligence (iii) Training, and (iv) Networking & Events

  • Advocacy

Collective voice of the private capital industry with the public stakeholders, championing the cause of the sector with government in Uganda, regulators, other industry associations and the capital markets operators- who include pension funds, asset managers and fund administrators.

The Uganda Chapter will also engage in the capacity building of external stakeholders including pension funds and enterprises (SMEs), to ensure they have an understanding of how private capital investment works.

  • Networking

Uganda Chapter is a platform that promotes private equity and venture capital interests in Uganda and the wider East Africa region. Our role as a network facilitator allows us to create opportunities for our members to interact with governments, regulators, private enterprises and other stakeholders, to form synergies that are mutually beneficial. Our events further allow us to grow awareness of our sector with other stakeholders, along with the contribution of private capital in positioning Uganda as an investment hub within East Africa.

  • Intelligence

The Uganda Chapter will build and maintain database of service providers (accountants, lawyers, consultants, tax advisors, etc) that enable more efficient use of the provision of capital and technical assistance to private enterprises (SMEs) in Uganda. Additionally there will be localized data and research on (private) investment to the private enterprise sector in Uganda.
