Applications are now open for the YOUNGO Climate Change and Human Rights Academy, a unique program designed to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and tools to engage at the intersection of human rights and climate justice. This Academy offers a dynamic learning experience through six interactive virtual sessions led by professional speakers, creating space for meaningful dialogue, critical reflection, and practical skill-building.
Participants will explore key themes such as intergenerational equity, migration, indigenous peoples’ rights, and the role of land defenders. Each session will highlight pressing global issues while fostering a deeper understanding of how human rights and climate change are interlinked. Alongside the sessions, a comprehensive handbook will be provided, offering participants a valuable resource that captures essential insights and practical approaches to advancing climate justice.
Eligibility criteria
The Academy is open to young people between the ages of 18 and 35 who are either actively working in or interested in the fields of climate justice and human rights. Applicants should be committed to attending and engaging in the virtual sessions, which will all be conducted in English. Translation services may be made available, with details to be communicated closer to the event dates.
Timeline
The schedule begins with the opening session on Human Rights and Climate Change, taking place on September 19 at 12:00 pm UTC. Subsequent sessions include Intergenerational Climate and Gender Justice on October 3 at 1:00 pm UTC, Indigenous Rights and Land Defenders in Climate Change on October 17 at 2:00 pm UTC, and Climate-Induced Migration, Peace, and Security on November 1 at 12:00 pm UTC. Participants will also gain skills in Effective Climate Advocacy, Campaigning, and Communications on November 29 at 1:00 pm UTC, before concluding with a session on Youth Leadership and Engagement in Climate Policy on December 13 at 3:00 pm UTC.
