TITLE: Youth Counselor
REPORTS TO: Programs Manager
DUTY STATION: Busia
CONTRACT TYPE: Full-time
SALARY: Commensurate with experience.

Job Summary:
The Youth Counselor will play a significant role in the support and coordination of the mental health of the children at Noonday Children’s homes. He or she will work closely with the Country Director, Programs Manager and House Parents in assessing each child and provide a safe environment for the children. The Youth Counselor will be responsible for making the appropriate referrals as needed and potential education possibilities for each child. This is a field position.

Key Responsibilities
● Allocate adequate time for assigned number of children to dialogue about their life.
● Provide a safe environment for the children to express their feelings.
● Provide reports about each child.
● Help the children learn to build relationships and serve others.
● Help children grow spiritually, physically, and emotionally.
● Assist in the evaluation of each child and their long-term needs.
● Work with House Parents and Social Workers as needed.
● Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience
● A diploma or Bachelor of Social Work, Social Sciences or related field
● Three years of experience working directly with children, especially teenagers, preferred

● Working knowledge of the social system in Uganda.

● Knowledge of crisis intervention
● Knowledge of community resources and victim service providers engaged in helping children
● Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other professionals within the NGO Sector.

● Must commit to love the children of Noonday
● Excellent oral and written communication skills
● Displays empathy, calm demeanor, mature judgment
● Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills
● Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
● Ability to travel domestically
● Willingness to be available for operational emergencies during non-business hours
● Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and under stressful conditions
● Proficiency in one of the regional local languages
● Professional presentation
● Sustained positive attitude
