Title: Medical Officer (Full Time)

Qualifications: Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery

Years of Experience: 1-2 years preferred

Reports to: Study Coordinator

Number of Vacancies: 1

Major Responsibilities:

·       Identify and screen patients for possible enrolment into the study according to the protocol.

·       Recruitment and enrollment of eligible patients into the study.

·       Provide emergency and continuous medical care to children taking part in the study for the duration of the study.

·       Consent and explain study procedures to caregivers and older children.

·       Collect appropriate samples from the study participants and ensure that they are delivered to the appropriate labs as per protocol.

·       Review study forms and data for accuracy and with attention to detail, conducted daily

·       Responsible for documentation and reporting of any adverse events.

·       Participate in study-specific training for conducting a clinical research study

·       Train/supervise study nurses.

·       Participate in the routine clinical care of non-study participants on the wards.

·       Perform other duties given by your supervisors.

·       Communicate regularly with project leaders about study progress through physical and/or virtual media

·       Maintaining good communication and working relationship between the study team and Mulago Hospital

Required qualifications and skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Bachelor’s in Surgery
  • Full registration and annual practicing license with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioner’s Council (UMDPC)
  • Prior experience in clinical research will be an added advantage
  • Proven Good Clinical Practices (GCP) training
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop relationships with participants
  • Teamworking skills to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Time management skills and the ability to work under pressure
  • Willingness to keep up to date with current traumatic brain injury information and research.
